Gas Liquids Engineering Ltd. (GLE) provided Denbury Resources with a solution for the Riley Ridge Gas Processing Facility to dissolve built up elemental sulphur. The facility contains three wells that extracts CO2 and H2S from the process feed stream via refrigeration / fractionation and methanol absorption, as well as rejects Nitrogen and recovers Helium. Methane and Helium are the sales products, and the CO2 and H2S is injected for sequestration. When the wells were brought online solid sulphur would slowly deposit in the well bore creating a pressure drop orifice and ultimately plugging the well. The solution involved downhole continuous injection of a physical solvent (SulphaMax) at each individual well to dissolve built up elemental sulphur.
