McCain Foods – Coaldale Biogas Project

Gas Liquids Engineering Ltd. (GLE) carried out the design of a biogas recovery project at the McCain Foods Coaldale facility, as an engineering subcontractor. This project involved the design and installation of a biogas capture system from the potato waste biogas membrane to the existing boiler system. A heat-traced, 520 metre long above ground stainless steel pipeline, including supports and foundations, was designed and installed to transport the pressurized biogas for use as fuel in the existing boilers at the nearby facility. A condensed liquids separation, collection, and pumping system was also installed in order to remove the highly corrosive liquids that condense in biogas service. The system transports 10800 m³/d of biogas, eliminating these emissions to atmosphere from the food waste stream. The system additionally improves the overall facility efficiency by reducing the requirements for outside fuel. The installation was designed in compliance with the CGA-B105 Digester and Landfill Gas Installation Code.
